Itsuki is Takumi's best friend; he provides the comic relief in the series. Itsuki works part-time at a gas station with Takumi and Iketani; Itsuki plans to use the money he earns to buy an AE86. At first, he and Iketani think that Takumi is totally ignorant about cars - especially when Iketani invites them both to the Akina Speed Stars practice and Takumi ends up screaming in Iketani's car. ^^; (Itsuki's eyes were bugged out, just in case you're wondering what his reaction was)
When the Akagi Red Suns show up challenges the Akina Speed Stars to a race, Itsuki gets excited about it. On the night of the race where the Speed Stars were waiting for the driver of the AE86 Trueno, who was going to race for them, both Itsuki and Iketani were surprised when Takumi stepped out of the car. Iketani panicked and asked Takumi where Takumi's father was since he thought that Bunta was going to drive for them. Itsuki... decided to give Takumi a good knock on the head instead. But Iketani allowed Takumi to race and both Iketani and Itsuki were surprised that Takumi won.
